When the ball starts rolling at the Santiago Bernabéu, all eyes will be on players such as Casillas, Arbeloa, Cristiano Ronaldo, Griezmann and Mandzukic. There is, however, a player who wants to show his manager once again that against Atlético, he is a force to be reckoned with – James Rodríguez.
The Colombian has not yet found his true footing with the current European champions. Truth be told, the new signing has failed to shine in all of Real's first five official matches. It was precisely against Atlético when he last gave his best performance, and something that he is set on repeating in the derby.
In the first-leg game of the Spanish Supercup, the Nº.10 started the match off on the bench, although Ronaldo's injury gave him his chance to show what he was made of after the break. In the second half, with freedom to move about as he pleased, he gave signs of his true potential and even scored his team's first. Unfortunately for 'Los Blancos', Raúl García pulled the game back not long afterwards.
In the return game, James started off on the left flank, but on a very long leash.
The newbie played for 65 minutes in that position, the best we have seen of him as a Real Madrid player. Alas, his temmates weren't as on-form as he was and Real ended up losing. This time round, James will be out to put on a similar show as he did last time, and this time win
