Nigeria’s para- athletics sprint star Hannah Babalola won two medals, a gold and silver in 200m
T54 class and the 800m T54 class respectively at the 7
th Fazaa
International Athletics Competition February 20 to 27 2015 in Dubai. She placed
first in the 200m wheelchair race, with a time of 33.20secs ahead of Helbling
Alexandra of Switzerland
who clocked 33.59 sec. While Britain’s
Dawson Farrell Megan placed third in 36.36 sec. In the 800m T54 wheelchair event,
Babalola came in second with a time of 2:07.42 min. behind winner, Helbling Alexander
of Switzerland while same Dawson
Farrell Megan of Britain
was third clocking 2: 05’48 min. She has therefore brightened
her chances of
qualification for the Rio 2016 Paralympics Games.” I have gained a lot competing
against top athletes from all over the world,” she told Sports Vanguard after
the event. It will be recalled that her participation in the competition was on
self sponsorship with assistance from private individuals and organisation. Result
from her involvement in another competition in Qatar was not available as at going
to press.
