Okpodu harps on need to get Falcons ready for Canada
Former Super Falcons coach Sam Okpodu believes there is need
to increase- up preparations of the Falcons for THE FIFA Women World Cup in
Canada to get the team in right frame. “There is going to be higher intensity
by top campaigners including past winners and those hungry to win. Okpodu, who
spoke to Sports Vanguard said for a country like ours with lots of talents,
there is need to work on players mental condition with good preparation, have
them ready physically and bear more
intensity in the approach to the game. Okpodu, who is now handler of Warri Wolves,
harped on the need for the players to have good pre-competition games, be well
oriented about the enormity of standard of play in the world cup saying, “definitely,
the competition level and tactical approach of teams are well above what our
players are used to on the African level. “The other teams will apply high
pressure and psychology both on individuals and on the team. So, there has to
be a balance in state of mind at all time for players because to withstand
pressure you have to look tougher mentally.”
“We have to try harder than we ever did to succeed and we have the
capacity to do that. It is possible to make an impact out there if we truly apply
our hearts to do it,” he added
