Basketballer Paul George snaps his leg during Team USA scrimmage
Earlier this year, a stomach-churning clip of basketballer Paul George breaking his right lower leg went viral.
In it, George is running down court when his right leg becomes caught under the basket stanchion and breaks.
The instantaneous injury appeared to snap George’s tibia at 90 degrees and felt, in his words, “like gasoline was on my leg and someone like a match.”
Sa Jae-Hyouk’s backwards bent elbow
Olympic Weightlifter Sa Jae-Hyouk’s London Games didn’t exactly go to plan.
As the South Korean competitor was had successfully pulled off a 158kg lift in his first snatch attempt, but buckled under the 162kg weight of his second.
As he lingered in the squatting position, the athlete’s elbow snaps backward and he screams in pain before crumpling onto the mat.
Long jumper Salim Sdiri hit with javelin
Intersecting athletics events almost turned deadly at the 2007 Rome Golden League meeting.
French long jumper Sali Sdiri had to be taken to hospital after Finland’s Tero Pitkamaki javelin speared his side.
Medics on the scene said Sdiri has sustained a 4cm wound.
Wrestler Sid Vicious breaks leg
Given it’s a sport that mimics extreme violence, fans were left stunned when World Champion Wrestling competitor Sid Vicious snapped his leg while trying to leap down on his opponent Scott Steiner.
It was a career-ending injury.
