(*Pope Francis says he has not watched television since 1990
THE Pope says he has not watched TV since 1990 after making a promise to the Virgin Mary.“I have not watched TV since 1990,” the Buenos Aires-born Pope told Argentinian newspaper La Voz del Pueblo.
“It’s a promise I made the Virgin of Carmen on the night of 15 July 1990.
“It’s not for me.”
The date is a week after defending champions Argentina lost to Germany 1-0 in the FIFA World Cup Final in Rome, Italy.
The leader of the Roman Catholic Church added that he does not surf the internet. He does though read one newspaper for 10 minutes each morning.
His time is spent working, the 78-year-old said.
“I am under pressure. All those in government are under pressure,” he said.
“At the moment I feel the workload. I have a strong pace of work at the moment. There are a thousand things to be done and there are problems.”
Since accepting the role in 2013 Francis said that he missed the tranquillity of walking the streets and, with a laugh, that he misses slipping into a pizzeria to eat “una buena pizza.”
“Takeaway is not the same,” he said.
“You have to go there.”
