Kelechi Iheanacho has erased all doubts about his readiness for this
year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup after scoring the winner as Manchester City’s
U-21 won the inaugural International Premier League Cup on Friday.
The Most Valuable Player of the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup scored
inside five minutes of the final match against FC Porto’s U-21 to give
his side victory, and is already alooking forward to be part of the
Flying Eagles’ squad to New Zealand.
SC Benfica of Portugal, Schalke 04 of Germany, Leicester City of
England and Celtic Glasgow of Scotland were the other teams whose U-21
squads took part in the International Premier League Cup.
This year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup finals open on May 30, with Nigeria,
two-time runners-up, playing her first match of the tournament against
Brazil on the first day of June.
His performance, coupled with his appearance in an U-19 game last
month, must now convince English Premiership giants Manchester City FC
that Kelechi Iheanacho is fit to play for Nigeria in New Zealand.
Iheanacho’s U-20 mates are presently at a final training camp in
Nuremberg, Germany ahead of the finals, and he is expected to join them
next week.
