Sports: "This Year Is My Masters Degree" Says Fernando Pacheco
In Puebla de Obando, in Spain's Badajoz province, they can now boast that one of their own is a Real Madrid first team player. That man is Fernando Pacheco, Los Blancos' third-choice, and Spain's Under-21 keeper.
Q. Will the Under-21s be your sanctuary this season?
A. I'm really looking forward to playing for them. I'm barely going to have any playing time at club level but I think this could be a very important year for me.
Q. Do you think you'll miss out on a lot of first-team action this season?
A. Yes I will. I knew that would happen when I came up from Real Madrid Castilla. I'm going to take it like a Masters Degree, a year to learn, to grow, train hard and be a better keeper at the end of it.
Q. Are you aware that not playing club football could limit your chances with the Under-21s?
A. Yes, that's obvious, but it's also true that keepers train very hard during the week and I'm going to be in top form.
Q. What do you learn from and what do you like best about Iker and Keylor?
A. To improve on a daily basis. We have a great work rate in training. There's a really good atmosphere. I'd highlight their reflexes in goal. They're amazing between the posts, they're very quick. They're so impressive to watch.
Q. What did you learn from Diego López?
A. Aside from footballing matters, he was always very good to me. He helped me a lot, gave me advice. Plus he's an outstanding keeper
