Sports Life: I Was Abused As A Child, Says Tyson

Mike Tyson says he was sexually abused as a seven-year-old in Brooklyn

MIKE Tyson has revealed that he was sexually molested at the age of seven growing up in New York.
The former boxer told SiriusXM’s Opie Radio that he managed to escape and that it was a once-off incident.
“He snatched me off the street,” the 48-year-old said. “I was a little kid ... [he was an] old man.”
“[He] bullied me, sexually abused me and stuff,” Tyson said. “Never seen him again.”
Tyson has been open about his difficult childhood but said he never told anyone about the abuse
“I just went on with my life,” he said.
Asked if the assault changed him, Tyson said: “I don’t know if it did or not.”
“I don’t always remember, but maybe I do but I don’t. I’m not ashamed or embarrassed by it.”
Tyson of course went on to claim the title of the world heavyweight boxing champion in the 1980s but in 1992 he was convicted of raping teenage beauty queen Desiree Washington and served three years in prison.
In 1997 he was suspended from boxing for biting rival Evander Holyfield on both ears.
He star declared bankruptcy in 2003 and retired from professional boxing in 2006.
Since his retirement, Tyson has popped up in a number of movies, including The Hangover and even had his own one-man show on Broadway.

Burkinabe President Blaise Compaore Reportedly Toppled

After three-decades in power Burkina Faso’s president ‘forced out’

AN ARMY official has announced that Burkina Faso’s embattled President Blaise Compaore has been ousted, prompting an outburst of cheers from protesters demanding his resignation.

“As of today, Compaore is no longer in power,” Colonel Boureima Farta told tens of thousands of protesters who had gathered in front of the army headquarters on Friday.
Farta spoke to the crowd shortly after noon, hoisted on the shoulders of other officers.
Compaore, who has been in power for 27 years, on Thursday had rejected calls to step down following angry demonstrations over plans to amend the constitution to allow him to extend his rule.
He said he would no longer seek another term but would stay in power through 2015 under a transitional government.

Ebola: We are not trying to push limits’

Hickox’s boyfriend says the Ebola nurse is not trying to push limits or get anyone sick

THE boyfriend of an Ebola nurse refusing to be quarantined insists she is not trying to get anyone sick or push any limits.Kaci Hickox, who treated Ebola patients in Sierra Leone, and her boyfriend, Ted Wilbur, purposefully rode their bikes away from town on a dirt path to avoid coming into contact with people.
“We’re not trying to push any limits here. We’re members of this community, too, and we want to make people comfortable,” he told reporters.
Ms Hickox, who returned to the US last week, has been under what Maine is calling a voluntary quarantine at her home in this town of 4300 people.
She has rebelled against the restrictions, saying that her rights are being violated and that she is no threat to others because she has no symptoms. She tested negative last weekend for Ebola, though it can take days for the virus to reach detectable levels.
State officials said that they were seeking a court order to require a quarantine through November 10, the end of the 21-day incubation period for the Ebola virus.
But it was unclear whether the state had gone to court or whether there had been any progress in negotiations aimed at a compromise.
Fort Kent Police Chief Tom Pelletier went inside the home briefly and said afterwards, “We just had a good conversation.” He said he was not there to arrest or detain Ms Hickox.
Governor Paul LePage said state attorneys and Ms Hickox’s lawyers had discussed a scaled-down quarantine that would have allowed her to go for walks, runs and bicycle rides while preventing her from venturing into populated public places or coming within a metre of others.
“I was ready and willing — and remain ready and willing — to reasonably address the needs of health care workers meeting guidelines to assure the public health is protected,” he said.

CAF Agrees To Shift 2015 AFCON To June

CAF, Africa’s football governing body has agreed in principle with Moroccan authorities to move the hosting for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations to June, the Moroccan media have reported.

According to the reports, the Confederation of African Football has agreed in principle to the postponement of January’s Africa Cup of Nations because of the threat of Ebola.

The reports follow a meeting held in Yaoundé on Wednesday between CAF President, Issa Hayatou and representatives from the Moroccan Ministry of Sports, the Moroccan football association (FRMF) and the country’s health authorities.

Morocco have again requested that the tournament, scheduled to be held between January 17 and February 8, be postponed voicing concerns over the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, and proposed to move it to June 2015 or January 2016.

Issa Hayatou would be willing to meet their request, according to the Moroccan daily As-Sabah.

However, CAF have refused to comment on the matter and a final decision is expected to be taken by Sunday when the Executive Committee of the continental body meet in Algiers.

ECOWAS calls for calm and dialogue in Burkina Faso

The Chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), John Dramani Mahama, on Friday urged the political class in Burkina Faso to dialogue to arrive at political consensus.
The Ghanaian president said the sub-regional body had followed with grave attention events unfolding in Burkina Faso and the tension around the process leading to the consideration of the draft bill on constitutional amendment.
He reiterated in a statement the need for compliance with the principle of democracy and constitutional governance as stipulated in the ECOWAS protocol on democracy and good governance.
Burkina Faso's armed forces on Thursday announced the dissolution of parliament and government and the creation of a transitional body after violent protesters against the president's plan to extend his 27-year rule set the parliament ablaze.
Meanwhile, United Nations (UN) Chief Ban Ki-moon's Special Envoy for West Africa, Mohamed Ibn Chambas, is expected to fly to Burkina Faso on Friday to try to ease the crisis, the UN said.

'Rumble in the Jungle' Fight Ring Missing

Officials in Kinshasa have revealed the ring used for "The Rumble in the Jungle" has been stolen as boxing fans Thursday marked 40 years since one of the most famous and brutal bouts in the sport's history.
As the sporting world remembers Muhammad Ali's epic showdown with George Foreman the search is on for the ring which the two boxers climbed into at dawn on October 30, 1974.
The ring "was stolen a few years ago," Barthelemy Bosongo, manager of the Tata Raphael stadium which staged the fight, told AFP.
"We don't know where it's gone, but it's no longer in Kinshasa," he added. "We're in the process of setting up a judicial investigation."
A leading sports official in the Democratic Republic of Congo who wished to remain anonymous believes the bulky piece of sporting memorabilia "is in South Africa".

News/life: Will Still Love Me When I’m 70 Years?’

A bride turns up to wedding shoot with old face to test if boyfriend will love her when she’s old

THE bride is either genuinely devastated, or this couple about to be married are just part of an elaborate marketing ploy.
This bride and groom created quite the spectacle in a busy Chinese street this week as they were about to take pre-wedding photos.
Things appear to start fairly simply for the couple, who were all frocked up and ready to go on Shenzhen’s Dongmen Street this week, but it all turned a little ugly fairly quickly.
The ‘loving couple’ turned argumentative after the bride appeared with make up which aged her, appearing to make her look years older in a bid to test her boyfriend’s love, Shangaiist reported.
But the test took an ugly turn when instead of answering yes and going along with the shoot, he asked her to take the make up off.
Witnesses said she then asked him if he would still love her at 70, and if so, the make up would stay on.
But her refusal sparked an angry response from her lover who stormed off leaving his devastated bride-to-be in tears on the street much to the bewilderment of onlookers.
She then went on to reveal why she was so keen to test him.
“He is such a philanderer and he used to have many girlfriends,” she said, before adding that the reason she was still with him was because he treated her well.
Whether it is real or staged, it appears love does hurt.

Sports/football: Balotelli Scores At Last For Liverpool

AFTER going six weeks without a goal Mario Balotelli was mightily relieved to “finally” regain his scoring touch against Swansea City and save Liverpool from an English League Cup fourth-round exit.
The Italy striker, who had previously netted once in 11 appearances for the Reds, came off the bench to equalize with four minutes remaining at Anfield on Tuesday night.
The goal helped Liverpool turn the tide and Dejan Lovren grabbed a stoppage-time winner to secure a 2-1 victory and a place in the quarterfinals.

An Aussie Senator's Freaky Sex Scandal Exposed

Ms Peris, who was working as a communication officer with the Australian Institute of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Studies at the time and as ambassador for Athletics Australia, sought funds from Athletics Australia and other sources to pay for Mr Boldon’s trip to Australia from Los Angeles to take part in a 10 day official “Jump Start to London” program for young athletes.
She also used that trip to carry out a “just like a Tim-tam... black on black” affair with Mr Boldon. She was married to Daniel Batman at the time.
“Ato…tell me babe…what u want … Make a bit of money and spend time together … I will take time of from work to be with u,” Ms Peris wrote in an email exchange obtained by the NT News.
Mr Boldon responded: “Purpose is time with u plus attend trials plus help them promote the trials and possibly guest broadcast on the tv station carrying it…need hotel ticket plus 15,000 US
SENATOR Nova Peris sought taxpayers’ money to help her to carry out an extra-marital sexual tryst with Olympic medallist Ato Boldon in 2010, an Northern Territory News investigation has revealed.  Athletics Australia confirmed they did pay for Mr Boldon’s flight to Melbourne from Los Angeles and covered his accommodations and some “incidentals” while in Australia.
A spokesman confirmed Ms Peris had personally selected Mr Boldon for the “Jump Start to London” program and that he “capably fulfilled his role as mentor and ambassador.” Athletics Australia would not disclose the total amount for the 10 day trip that ran from April 9 – 19, 2010 and refused to disclose any other information citing confidentiality
“We also have a relationship with Senator Peris who is a reputable former athlete and someone who we want to maintain a relationship with,” said Cody Lynch.
In other emails obtained by the NT News, Ms Peris sends multiple nude pictures of herself to Mr Boldon and speaks candidly about her views on race relations in Australia.
“...You should be compensated for your long haul travels across the pacific.. sexually of course… but only .. a tired traveller should kick back for a few days,” Ms Peris says on Feb 28, 2010.
On March 5, 2010 Mr Boldon asks for something to tide him over until their rendezvous.
“Looks great.. when do I get some nude pics from u?”
Ms Peris responds on the same day: “Really, u want me to send some!!!! That is some freaky stuff Mr B..u like freaky??”
On March 6, Ms Peris emails Mr Boldon a nude photo of herself to which he responds: “Ohh ok lol”.
“Tester before naughty,” Ms Peris explains in a follow-up.
Ms Peris responded to questions posed by the NT News last night, saying she “categorically rejects any wrongdoing”.
“During his trip Mr Boldon promoted athletics, attended and promoted specific events and conducted clinics for young Indigenous athletes,” she said. “Other organisations, including the West Australian Government, supported some events during the visit. I understand Athletics Australia was pleased with the outcome of the visit.
“The highs and lows of my athletic career – and now political career – are public.
“The highs and lows of my private life are matters for me and my family.”
In earlier emails from February 26, 2010, Ms Peris assures Mr Boldon she will find the money for him.
“…all expenses paid meals & accom and a fee!! Don’t know what it is I was thinking around the $10k I don’t know bub…if your purpose was to come here and make a bit of money or holiday…it was not in the budget to bring any profile athletes out but…I am goin through the indigenous grants mob….they can do was I have suggested…but I am not sure what they can do …”

News/health:Ebola Outbreak Will Hit China, Virus Pioneer Peter Piot Warns

* Says Number of workers in Africa raises threat, says Peter Piot, who also dismisses HK screening
One of the scientists who discovered Ebola has warned that China is under threat from the deadly virus because of the huge number of Chinese workers in Africa.
Professor Peter Piot also made the grim prediction that Ebola would claim thousands more lives in the months ahead.
"It will get worse for a while, and then hopefully it will get better when people are isolated," said Piot, who is in Hong Kong for a two-day symposium. "What we see now is every 30 days there is a doubling of new infections."
He estimated the epidemic would last another six to 12 months.

West Africa is experiencing the worst Ebola outbreak in history. Cases have also been recorded in the United States, Germany, Spain, Norway, France and Britain. So far, 10,141 suspected cases have been reported and the death toll stands at 4,922.
"In Africa, there are many Chinese working there. So that could be a risk for China in general, and I assume that one day [an outbreak of Ebola in China] will happen," said Piot, director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
He also said that infection control measures at mainland hospitals were not always "up to standard", which put public health at great risk.
Piot stressed the importance of training people to spot at-risk air passengers before they boarded. And he said voluntary surveillance measures at Chek Lap Kok airport in Hong Kong were not effective enough. "Widespread screening [of arrivals] in airports is not that effective, to be honest … the most cost-effective method is to screen people before they take the plane."
A patient feared to have Ebola in Hong Kong tested negative in a preliminary test yesterday. The 39-year-old man, who had been in Nigeria from October 13 to 20, went to Prince of Wales Hospital before being transferred to the Infectious Disease Centre at Princess Margaret Hospital.
Piot said the best way to bring Ebola under control was the use of "safe and cheap" blood tests that took as little as 10 minutes.
Ebola is transmitted through contact with bodily fluids, and Piot said there was no scientific evidence that the virus would become airborne.
The World Health Organisation has warned there could be 10,000 new cases a week by December if governments worldwide do not act. It said the earliest a vaccine could be made available was the middle of next year.
Piot said that three pharmaceutical firms were working on vaccines, and the results of an early trial of one drug may be available by February. He hoped that confidence could be built among people in Ebola-stricken countries to receive the vaccines.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said last week a "massive surge in assistance" was needed to supply more protective equipment, mobile laboratories and medical workers.
China has sent a new batch of protective gear and equipment to seven African countries.

Uche Mabo hail Falcons, urge team to gear up for the world

Former Super Falcons handlers, Eucharia Uche and Ismaila Mabo have given kudos to the girls for reasserting Nigeria’s top edge in Africa by winning the African Women Championship in Namibia for the seventh time. Speaking to Sports vanguard, Uche, an ex-Falcon who has the record as first Nigeria female coach to win the Championship, said she was particularly happy at the way the players carried their game high during the championship such that it was clear from “go” they were out to reclaim the cup lost in 2012 to Equatorial Guinea who incidentally hosted the 7th edition. “Well, I’m glad at the outcome. My commendation to the coach and players not just for winning, by also for holding their heads high throughout the competition, I saw a team that played with determination and courage and these often translated into goals scored with each passing game. It brought back memories of my playing days. There was no doubt they were out to do it,” she said. Speaking in the same vein, Mabo, who had the privilege of handling the team in to an  World Cup and Olympic games, praised the team for a job well done, saying :”kudos to the coach for doing a right mix of old and new, senior and junior players.” Mabo said “if our system can sustain the tempo of churning out new players who team up with the more experienced one in good time and with planning, in no time we can look forward to doing well on the world stage.
Meanwhile, both Uche and Mabo have also expressed full support for an appropriate reward for the team by the government, in the same manner they are calling on the NFF set the tone for the Falcons to have an outstanding World Cup next year in Canada, “We have not arrived yet, we should regard our victory in Namibia as part dress rehearsal for Canada. “First players owe themselves a duty to set a target for the world.. That means there should be no one should see the job as done until we are able to surpass our past performance in the world Cup.,” Mabo stated.Nigeria beat Cameroun 2-0 in the AWC final last weekend to clinch a seventh title and ticket to the world cup in Canada.

News/Life: Iranian Woman Executed For Killing Man Who 'tried To Rape Her' Leaves Heartbreaking fFnal Message

A 26-year-old Iranian woman, who was hanged after being convicted of the murder of the man she said tried to rape her, has left a heartbreaking voice message for her mother in the lead-up to her death.
Reyhaneh Jabbari was hanged in a Tehran prison on Saturday morning, an execution described by human rights group Amnesty International as "deeply disappointing in the extreme".
Ms Jabbari was convicted of killing a former intelligence officer. According to the court ruling, she stabbed the man with a pen knife, but Ms Jabbari denied murdering the former intelligence office, protesting that another man in the house had committed the murder.
By this stage, Ms Jabbari had already resigned herself to being sentenced to death, regardless of evidence given in court.
She contacted her mother in April to make sure authorities were clear that she wanted her organs donated, but realised it would be her last message to her, and therefore decided to open up about her traumatic experience of being on death row for five years.
Ms Jabbari claimed her social status played a leading hand in her death, which she had foreseen the moment she was taken into custody
"That ominous night it was I that should have been killed," Ms Jabbari said to her mother in a message translated by Iranian activists. "My body would have been thrown in some corner of the city, and after a few days, the police would have taken you to the coroner's office to identify my body and there you would also learn that I had been raped as well.
"The murderer would have never been found since we don't have their wealth and their power. Then you would have continued your life suffering and ashamed, and a few years later you would have died of this suffering and that would have been that."
Ms Jabbari made it clear to her mother she wanted her organs to be donated.
"I don't want to rot under the soil," she said. "I don't want my eye or my young heart to turn into dust.
"Beg so that it is arranged that as soon as I am hanged my heart, kidney, eye, bones and anything that can be transplanted be taken away from my body and given to someone who needs them as a gift.
"I don't want the recipient to know my name, buy me a bouquet, or even pray for me."
Here is the full text of Ms Jabbari's final message to her mother:
Dear Sholeh, today I learnt that it is now my turn to face Qisas [the Iranian regime's law of retribution]. I am hurt as to why you did not let me know yourself that I have reached the last page of the book of my life. Don't you think that I should know? You know how ashamed I am that you are sad. Why did you not take the chance for me to kiss your hand and that of dad?
The world allowed me to live for 19 years. That ominous night it was I that should have been killed. My body would have been thrown in some corner of the city, and after a few days, the police would have taken you to the coroner's office to identify my body and there you would also learn that I had been raped as well. The murderer would have never been found since we don't have their wealth and their power. Then you would have continued your life suffering and ashamed, and a few years later you would have died of this suffering and that would have been that.
However, with that cursed blow the story changed. My body was not thrown aside, but into the grave of Evin Prison and its solitary wards, and now the grave-like prison of Shahr-e Ray. But give in to the fate and don't complain. You know better that death is not the end of life.
*Jabbari
You taught me that one comes to this world to gain an experience and learn a lesson and with each birth a responsibility is put on one's shoulder. I learnt that sometimes one has to fight. I do remember when you told me that the carriage man protested the man who was flogging me, but the flogger hit the lash on his head and face that ultimately led to his death. You told me that for creating a value one should persevere even if one dies.
You taught us that as we go to school one should be a lady in face of the quarrels and complaints. Do you remember how much you underlined the way we behave? Your experience was incorrect. When this incident happened, my teachings did not help me. Being presented in court made me appear as a cold-blooded murderer and a ruthless criminal. I shed no tears. I did not beg. I did not cry my head off since I trusted the law.
But I was charged with being indifferent in face of a crime. You see, I didn't even kill the mosquitoes and I threw away the cockroaches by taking them by their antennas. Now I have become a premeditated murderer. My treatment of the animals was interpreted as being inclined to be a boy and the judge didn't even trouble himself to look at the fact that at the time of the incident I had long and polished nails.
How optimistic was he who expected justice from the judges! He never questioned the fact that my hands are not coarse like those of a sportswoman, especially a boxer. And this country that you planted its love in me never wanted me and no one supported me when under the blows of the interrogator I was crying out and I was hearing the most vulgar terms. When I shed the last sign of beauty from myself by shaving my hair I was rewarded: 11 days in solitary.
Dear Sholeh, don't cry for what you are hearing. On the first day that in the police office an old unmarried agent hurt me for my nails I understood that beauty is not looked for in this era. The beauty of looks, beauty of thoughts and wishes, a beautiful handwriting, beauty of the eyes and vision, and even beauty of a nice voice.
My dear mother, my ideology has changed and you are not responsible for it. My words are unending and I gave it all to someone so that when I am executed without your presence and knowledge, it would be given to you. I left you much handwritten material as my heritage.
However, before my death I want something from you, that you have to provide for me with all your might and in any way that you can. In fact this is the only thing I want from this world, this country and you. I know you need time for this. Therefore, I am telling you part of my will sooner. Please don't cry and listen. I want you to go to the court and tell them my request. I cannot write such a letter from inside the prison that would be approved by the head of prison; so once again you have to suffer because of me. It is the only thing that if even you beg for it I would not become upset although I have told you many times not to beg to save me from being executed.
My kind mother, dear Sholeh, the one more dear to me than my life, I don't want to rot under the soil. I don't want my eye or my young heart to turn into dust. Beg so that it is arranged that as soon as I am hanged my heart, kidney, eye, bones and anything that can be transplanted be taken away from my body and given to someone who needs them as a gift. I don't want the recipient to know my name, buy me a bouquet, or even pray for me. I am telling you from the bottom of my heart that I don't want to have a grave for you to come and mourn there and suffer. I don't want you to wear black clothing for me. Do your best to forget my difficult days. Give me to the wind to take away.
The world did not love us. It did not want my fate. And now I am giving in to it and embrace the death. Because in the court of God I will charge the inspectors, I will charge Inspector Shamlou, I will charge judge, and the judges of country's Supreme Court that beat me up when I was awake and did not refrain from harassing me. In the court of the creator I will charge Dr. Farvandi, I will charge Qassem Shabani and all those that out of ignorance or with their lies wronged me and trampled on my rights and didn't pay heed to the fact that sometimes what appears as reality is different from it.
Dear soft-hearted Sholeh, in the other world it is you and me who are the accusers and others who are the accused. Let's see what God wants. I wanted to embrace you until I die. I love you.

The World's Most Expensive Toothbrush

If you've ever dreamt of brushing your teeth with a gold toothbrush, a titanium toothbrush is probably the next best thing.
Retailing for $US4200 ($4800), the Reinast Luxury Toothbrush is the most expensive toothbrush on earth.
And it's not even electric.
So what makes it so special? The company claims that its design, durability, and specially trademarked anti-bacterial coating make it worth the hefty price tag. This is not the type of toothbrush you would throw away, either. Instead, the bristle head detaches from the metal base so you can ditch it and replace it.
The brush comes with a free three-year service plan of new bristle heads every six months (a service that is "naturally at no charge," according to the website). After that, Forbes reports that the plans get a bit more expensive: $US400 for five years, $US800 for seven years, or $US1600 for 11 years.
All for a toothbrush.
"The type of client we have in mind and are currently selling to are those with an incredibly high net-worth," Reinast chief technology officer Dr Djorde Djokovic explained to Gizmodo. "It's for people who can spend this amount of money on a product they deem beautiful. And one that doesn't exist on the market elsewhere."
And, it turns out, some billionaires are surprisingly willing to shell out $4800 on a toothbrush. Djokovic told Gizmodo that at least one Middle Eastern sultan gives them out as gifts.
For those billionaires who don't enjoy the taste of metal in their mouths in the morning, Reinast also offers "bumpers" to cover the brush end of the tool for that familiar plasticky feel — because you should always have the option of feeling like you're brushing with a $5 toothbrush with a tootbrush that actually cost $4800.

Ronaldo Squres For Another Award

Sports:No Suarez On Ballon d'Or List

Barcelona's former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been omitted from FIFA's 23-man shortlist of contenders for the Ballon D'or award. The list, which will be whittled down to the one player deemed to be the world's best, has no Englishmen but five Premier League players on it, though there is no place for the division's leading scorer from last season.
Twenty-seven-year-old Suarez scored 31 goals for Liverpool as they narrowly missed out on the English title, but his season ended in controversy after he bit Italy's Giorgio Chiellini while playing for Uruguay at the World Cup.
He was served with a four-month ban by FIFA as a consequence - a suspension which ended when he made his Barcelona debut against Real Madrid on Saturday - and but for that he would surely have made the list and been a strong contender.
As it is Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and his old foe and the current Ballon D'or holder Cristiano Ronaldo are sure to battle it out once more.
Ronaldo's stunning form in 2014 puts him down as the clear favourite - he guided Real Madrid to the Champions League title in May and has 21 goals in 14 appearances so far this season.
Real Madrid team-mate and Wales forward Gareth Bale makes the list, with the Premier League representation made up of three players from Chelsea, one from Manchester City and one from Manchester United.
Of that quintet, though, only two were playing in the Premier League last season. Chelsea pair Thibaut Courtois and Diego Costa were at Atletico Madrid, while Manchester United's Angel di Maria was with Ronaldo at Real. Eden Hazard of Chelsea and Manchester City's Yaya Toure are also nominated.
World Cup winners Germany have six players on the list - the most from any nation.
The 23-man list will be whittled down to three on December 1, with the winner announced in Zurich on January 12.
Also named are the nominees for coach of the year, with Manchester City's title-winning manager Manuel Pellegrini, Chelsea's Jose Mourinho and Manchester United's Louis van Gaal amongst the 10.
Ballon D'or shortlist: Gareth Bale (Wales), Karim Benzema (France), Diego Costa (Spain), Thibaut Courtois (Belgium), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal), Angel Di Maria (Argentina), Mario Goetze (Germany), Eden Hazard (Belgium), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Sweden), Andres Iniesta (Spain), Toni Kroos (Germany), Philipp Lahm (Germany), Javier Mascherano (Argentina), Lionel Messi (Argentina), Thomas Mueller (Germany), Manuel Neuer (Germany), Neymar (Brazil), Paul Pogba (France), Sergio Ramos (Spain), Arjen Robben (Netherlands), James Rodriguez (Colombia), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Germany), Yaya Toure (Cote d'Ivoire).
Coach of the year shortlist: Carlo Ancelotti (Italy/Real Madrid CF), Antonio Conte (Italy/Juventus FC/Italy national team), Pep Guardiola (Spain/FC Bayern Munich), Juergen Klinsmann (Germany/ USA national team), Joachim Loew (Germany/Germany national team), Jose Mourinho (Portugal/Chelsea FC), Manuel Pellegrini (Chile/Manchester City FC), Alejandro Sabella (Argentina/Argentina national team), Diego Simeone (Argentina/Atletico Madrid), Louis van Gaal (Netherlands/Netherlands national team/Manchester United FC).

Woman arrested after ‘trying to smuggle $79,000 into the Dominican Republic in her stomach’

A WOMAN has been arrested for trying to smuggle $US70,000 ($79,000) into the Dominican Republic — in her stomach.
A National Drug Control Agency spokesman said the cash, likely tied to drug trafficking, was divided up among 16 capsules. The 40-year-old woman also allegedly carried $US69,000 hidden inside her suitcase.
The alleged smuggler was arrested at the airport in the popular tourist district of Punta Cana after arriving on a flight from Brussels. Her name has not been released.
Dominican authorities say this is the first time they have arrested someone who was smuggling money in their stomach.

Pacquiao still ‘hungry’ to fight after underwhelming pro basketball debut

FILIPINO boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is still “hungry” to fight, despite a dalliance with professional basketball that had his camp worried sick.
The 35-year-old, who has world titles in eight weight divisions under his belt, made a lacklustre pro ball debut on Sunday, a month before his World Boxing Organisation title defence against undefeated American Chris Algieri in Macau.
“I’m still hungry and I’m doing what I did before,” he said in a teleconference call with the press from his training camp in the southern Philippine city of General Santos.
“What we’re doing right now is to get back the hungriness and the focus and the killer instinct that the people want.”
Pacquiao said basketball, the number one sport in the Philippines, was his other love — but that he is fully focused on boxing.
“Basketball is also good to have, you know, footwork and balancing. It helps a lot,” he said, describing it as his “cross-training” activity.

Sports: Maria Sharapova blows chance to go to No. 1

MARIA Sharapova’s hopes of becoming the year-end world No. 1 have gone up in smoke after she crashed in straight sets to Petra Kvitova at the WTA Finals in Singapore.
The Russian superstar needed a win to have any chance of overtaking top-ranked Serena Williams but she blew up in spectacular fashion as Kvitova won 6-3 6-2 in 75 minutes.
It was the second upset in quick succession at the season finale after Simona Halep stunned Williams 6-0 6-2 on Wednesday, the 18-time Grand Slam-winner’s worst defeat in 16 years.
Kvitova’s first win over Sharapova since 2011 also left the Russian’s bid for a second year-end title — a decade after the first — hanging by a thread after her opening defeat to Caroline Wozniacki.
Earlier, Wozniacki beat Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 7-5 6-3 to take top position in the White Group round robin as the resurgent Dane neared a spot in the semi-finals.
Sharapova won the first two games against Kvitova but then went to pieces as the Wimbledon champion won the next five straight and took the first set 6-3.
Another run of five games put Kvitova on the verge of victory before Sharapova finally earned a break of her own, and then saved two match points as she clung on in a 10-minute hold of serve at 5-1 down.
However, her resistance was broken when on the third match point, Kvitova blasted a magical looping forehand which landed on the baseline and beyond the crestfallen Russian.

Serena Williams ‘embarrassed’ by Simona Halep at WTA Finals in Singapore

SERENA Williams won just two games as she crashed to her heaviest defeat in 16 years and raised concerns over a knee injury that could dash her hopes at the WTA Finals.
The 18-time grand slam champion was a shadow of her dominant best as she slumped 6-0 6-2 to Romania’s Simona Halep, her biggest loss since she was 16 and without a tournament win to her name.
The seismic defeat ended a run of 16 straight victories at the year-ending tournament for the 2001, 2009, 2012 and 2013 champion, whose bid for a title hat-trick is now hanging in the balance.
“My forehand was off today again — I guess it went on an early vacation,” Williams said. “Lord knows my serve was as well My serve was at best in the 10-and-under division in juniors. Actually embarrassing I think describes the way I played. Yeah, very embarrassing.”
Given the high profile of the season finale in Singapore, it was a career low for the 33-year-old who had not been beaten so soundly since losing 6-1 6-1 to Joannette Kruger in Oklahoma City in 1998.
She signalled that she was a long way from recovering from the left knee injury which forced her to withdraw from the China Open in Beijing earlier this month.
“Oh, God no. I’m nowhere near 100 per cent,” she said, when asked about her injury.
“That has nothing to do with today’s match. I think Simona played really well and the best match of her career.”

Schumacher May Recover In time, Says Doctor
A FRENCH physician who treated Michael Schumacher for nearly six months after the Formula One champion struck his head in a ski accident says he is no longer in a coma and predicted a possible recovery within three years.
JEAN-FRANCOIS Payen, a doctor at the Grenoble hospital that treated Schumacher after his injury in December 2013, said he has visited the Schumacher family at home in Switzerland to track his patient's progress.
"Life after a head injury is punctuated by stages," Payen told RTL radio on Thursday. He predicted a convalescence of one to three years. "We hope, but we have to give him time." Schumacher was with his 14-year-old son in the French Alps when he fell, hitting the side of his head on a rock, cracking his helmet.=======================================================================
Christiano's Anfield Curse
*Ronaldo has not scored there in five visits

Cristiano Ronaldo will arrive at Anfield on an amazing run of form in front of goal. His goalscoring stats this season are simply unbelievable.
However, the Real Madrid man has never scored at Anfield, despite playing there five times during his time at Manchester United.
In United colours, Ronaldo's record at Anfield stands at three wins, one draw and just one defeat, in the 2005-2006 FA Cup.
His first appearance came during the 2004/05 campaign and saw him set up Rooney for United's winner (1-0). The following year, in the Premier League, Liverpool and United played out a goalless draw. During the 2006/07 campaign, the Red Devils again won 1-0, with Ronaldo this time setting up O'Shea for their winner. He played his last game there during the 2007/08 season, and again it ended in a 1-0 away win, courtesy of Carlos Tevez. Cristiano was injured when United visited Anfield during the 2008/09 season, his last before moving to Real Madrid.
However, it isn't just Cristiano who cannot find the net at Anfield. Real Madrid also failed to score during their 4-0 defeat there during the 2008/09 Champions League campaign. In fact, they failed to score in their other two games against the Reds: the 1981 European Cup final (1-0) and the first leg of the 2008/09 tie (1-0).

Bangalore Marathon Runners Take Wrong Turn, Take Bus To Finish Line
A marathon ended in farce in Bangalore after the pilot car overshot a turn, forcing the top three runners to take a long detour before abandoning the race -- and taking a bus to the finish line.
The leaders, who missed the U-turn at the 16km-mark, ran four extra kilometres before officials finally stopped them and told them they had taken the wrong route, a newspaper reported on Monday.
Realising they had no chance of recovering ground, the three abandoned the 42-km race in the southern city of Bangalore on Sunday and  borrowed money from spectators to take a bus to the finishing line.
"There were no officials on the road where we were supposed to take the U-turn," one of the runners, Inderjit Patel, told the Times of India. "We were just following the pilot car."
"It was too late when we were told what had happened. There was no point continuing the race. I am not bothered about missing the prize money, but disappointed that we had to suffer this humiliation."
Race organisers admitted the mistake and apologised. But there were other screw-ups in the race, which was flagged off by Olympic gold medallist and multiple world champion distance runner Haile Gebrselassie of Ethopia.
Runners had to line up at the start behind a row of heavy-set security guards who were slow to get out of the way when the flag went down, causing many competitors to trip over them.

New NFF Board Will Be Goal Oriented, Says Anyansi Agwu
Nigeria Football Federation board-member and Chairman of it's  Technical Committee, Felix Anyansi-Agwu has spoken  about  the challenges that lie ahead as the new NFF administration charts a new road-map for football in the country.
He spoke on the  Enyimba F.C. website followin Nigeria's African Cup of Nations qualifier 3-1 win over Sudan in Abuja..
How do you react to your appointment as Chairman of the NFF Technical Committee?
Anyansi Agwu: Thank you. I must say that I feel honoured. This is a very important position so I'm honoured and humbled at the same time because it means that there is confidence in me to take on bigger challenges. This is a time when our football has undergone some challenges so it is an important time to be given such a responsibility. The tasks we are faced with are quite tough, Nigerian football was in total crisis and we as a board have come in the midst of it, so we have to work very hard for the football itself and make sure the Super Eagles rise again. So again I feel honoured and optimistic about the future of our football.
What do you see as major challenges facing football?
Anyansi Agwu: I admit that a lot is expected from us but I won't say it is daunting because we came in well aware of the challenges. Remember that I was a member of the previous Technical Committee, so it is a case of stepping up what had been done in the past. I have been called to serve in this position and I will do everything I can within my capacity to make sure that I live up to the challenges.
But I will do it with all humility because when you humble yourself in office, it brings the best out of the people you work with. All of us are challenged and we must act quickly to start giving hope to Nigerians. You know the buck stops on my committee to see what can be done positively to sustain the achievements of the last board. The last board achieved a lot through the technical committee so we want to just carry on with that commitment.
How would you blot the graph for action in the  weeks ahead? We know getting the Super Eagles to the 2015 AFCON is top on your agenda right now, what else is your priority?
Anyansi Agwu: Stabilizing the crisis and producing results. We have a new president that is enterprising, what he expects from the rest of us is to equally rise up to the occasion. We don't expect it to be easy, but I'm confident that we all can bring out our very best and that God too will guide us. Right now there are two lines of actions, short term and long term.
Short term, we have two qualifying matches to go, we have to make sure we get good results and get the chance to defend our title. Nigerians are very passionate about their football and we will try not to let them down. We have to do all we can to qualify for the AFCON
Long term, we must develop and reposition our football for greater successes. We have to build from where the last administration stopped and make sure we become even more successful. This new board has very strong principles that will guide it to great things and I'm optimistic a lot of good will come.
As Chairman of Enyimba FC, a Nigeria Premier League side, how do you intend balancing both roles and do you think your experience with Enyimba over the years will play an important role as Chairman of the Technical Committee?
Anyansi Agwu: Obviously there are expectations that as Chairman of Enyimba, with all of what the club has achieved over the years that this Technical Committee, will achieve a lot too. People expect success, they want the glory days of the Super Eagles. I know how much it means to Nigerians, I know what it is like and I'm going to devote my time to taking up these challenges so we can achieve a whole lot. I believe that my experience as Chairman of Enyimba will be of great help to me and how I work with the rest of the new board.
Like I stated, I have been here before, this is not new so I will not need time to adjust. The most important thing for me is that the Nigerian Football Federation is beyond the success of one man. It is team work that would be required to help us produce success in Africa and on the world stage so we all would work together, hand in hand, to make Nigerians happy and proud again. This new administration will offer renewed hope and confidence.

Indian footballer  dies following goal celebration accident

A 23-year-old Indian footballer has died from severe spinal cord damage after attempting to celebrate a goal with a somersault, an official told Reuters on Monday.
Bethlehem Vengthlang FC midfielder Peter Biaksangzuala died on Sunday at a hospital in the northeastern Indian state of Mizoram after the incident in Tuesday's match in the third tier Mizoram Premier League (MPL).
"We are shocked by the case. We at the Mizoram Football Association did all we could but could not save him," MFA secretary Lalnghinglova Hmar told Reuters by telephone.
After scoring the equaliser against Chanmari West FC, a flipping Biaksangzuala landed awkwardly and was lying unconscious as his team mates surrounded him and gestured for help.
"The association president also being the state health minister, he did all that was possible even though he was out of station.
"We considered the option to fly him to Delhi but his condition was pretty bad. He was mostly unconscious, occasionally spelling out a few words," Hmar said.
Bethlehem has decided to retire the number 21 jersey as a tribute to Biaksangzuala while Hmar said MFA would organise a match in his memory.

"It's an honour to be linked with Real Madrid", Says Luca

The front page of MARCA, which revealed Real Madrid's interest in signing Lucas Silva, caused a stir in Brazil.

The player attended training as normal, after which he awaited a phone call from MARCA.

Q. Have you seen the front page of MARCA?
A. Yes, of course I've seen it. It's good news for me, it's always a joy to hear people speak about you like that.

Q. Real Madrid have been tracking you since last summer...
A. When a club like Real Madrid want you, it always makes you feel proud and happy. I know that I have to be focused here at Cruzeiro, that's my club, but interest from Real Madrid inspires me to keep working hard.

Q. Would you like to play for Real Madrid?
A. [Laughing] Of course I'd like to play for Real Madrid, it would be an honour. But for that to happen, an agreement between the clubs would need to be put in place first. I'm a Cruzeiro player and have so much respect for my club. If a club like Real Madrid came along, I wouldn't turn them down.

Q. Define yourself as a player.
A. I'm a modern attacking midfielder, I'm good on the ball, get from box to box and work hard for the team. I think I have good vision which helps me provide assists for my teammates...

Q. You play with Julio Baptista, have you spoken to him about Real Madrid?
A. Yes, he had a good experience there. He's always told me that it's a huge club, one of the biggest in the world.

AFCON2015: Morocco Denies Withdrawal
Rabat - Morocco has denied reports it has withdrawn as host of next year's African Cup of Nations, although it wants the tournament postponed.
Morocco wants Africa's premier football event postponed because Moroccans could be threatened by the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, information minister and government spokesman Mustapha Khalfi said on Thursday.

The Confederation of African Football insisted the tournament should carry on as planned in January and February 2015.

CAF has cancelled all football in the three worst affected Ebola countries — Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone — until further notice, but says it is following the advice of the World Health Organization that travel bans will not help curtail the outbreak.

CAF President Issa Hayatou will travel to Morocco next month to meet officials over their concerns, but the African football body said there can be no postponement.

"CAF has registered the request and wishes to state that there are no changes of the schedules of its competitions and events," CAF said.

CAF has apparently reached out to at least two other countries to ask if they would step in at short-notice if Morocco refuses to host on the original dates of January 17 - February 8.

Ghana's sports minister said on his official Facebook page that his country was approached to possibly host, and CAF also asked South Africa if it could be on standby, according to a CAF letter to the South African Football Association.

Morocco feels large groups of football supporters and other travellers from West Africa — where Ebola has killed more than 4 500 people in its worst outbreak ever — would put it at risk.

"There is no way we can be lenient with the health and safety of the Moroccan citizens," Khalfi said at a government media briefing on Thursday, repeating Morocco's request for the cup to be postponed.

He didn't say when Morocco wanted it postponed to.

Khalfi was repeating concerns expressed by Morocco's health ministry, which originally advised Moroccan authorities to request a postponement from CAF.

"Football is just a game and we can't play with the health of Moroccans," health minister Houssaine Louardi said this week.

"There is no zero risk when it comes to Ebola."

Ex-France defender Gallas retires at 37

FORMER France defender William Gallas has announced his retirement, bringing to an end a decorated 19-year professional career, he said.
“You tell yourself you can always continue but I think that today I can’t,” the center back told TV channel L’Equipe 21.
The 37-year-old Gallas started at French club Caen in 1995 before moving to Chelsea in 2001, and went on to have stints at both Arsenal and its north London rival Tottenham Hotspur.
Gallas won 84 caps for France and scored five goals, including the controversial strike in Les Bleus’s 2-1 playoff win over Ireland that earned the side a 2010 World Cup berth. Gallas poked the home from close range after being set up by Thiery Henry, who had clearly handled the ball to prevent it from going out of play. He also played the 2006 World Cup final which France lost on penalties to Italy.

2014 Shanghai Marathon: Bus, Ferry Services To Be Affected

Chinese officials have given details of bus and ferry services facing disruptions during the 2014 Shanghai International Marathon on November 2.
Reports said a total of 165 bus routes going through Huangpu, Jing’an and Xuhui districts will be affected on the day.
These include 25 bus routes — such as the No. 55 and No. 167 services — that pass along the Bund, the event’s start line. They will suspend operations from 5:30am until all runners leave the area.
The race begins at 7am and Metro services will not be affected.
Full details of suspended ferry services on the Huangpu River will be announced by police later this month.
Organizers have shifted the date of the annual event from December to November this year in the hope of better air quality.
The city’s meteorological and environmental protection departments will provide a text message service to runners with weather and air quality forecasts.
Last year’s event took place on December 1, when the city Air Quality Index rose to heavily polluted by 1pm.
According to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau, a cold front and wet weather may accompany this year’s race.
The 2014 marathon features 8,000 runners in the 42.2 kilometer race; 10,000 in the half marathon; 5,000 in the 10km race, and 12,000 runners in the 5km run. The full and half marathon end at the Shanghai Stadium.
==================================================================South Africa reluctant to host 2015 Africa Cup
SOUTH Africa is reluctant to step in as a replacement host for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations because the sport ministry fears Ebola and unplanned staging costs.
“There are just too many factors to consider for South Africa,” the department of sport and recreation said in a statement on Friday.
Morocco, the original host for the football tournament scheduled for January and February, wants it postponed because of Ebola and may give up the event completely.
The Confederation of African Football approached South Africa, Ghana and other countries to be on standby if Morocco withdraws.
But it’s possible that no one else wants it because of the limited preparation time and the threat of the deadly disease spreading through tens of thousands of travellers heading to the three-week, 16-team event.
South Africa’s sports ministry stressed it had not yet been officially asked by the South African Football Association to consider hosting the tournament, but referred to the “Ebola challenge engulfing the continent.”
More than 4500 people have died in West Africa in the worst recorded outbreak of the virus. The outbreak is still not contained in the three countries worst affected: Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. Ebola has no known cure or vaccination.

========================================================================== Messi: 10 Years Of Brilliance

*Four times World Player Of  The Year
The Argentine star played his first game for the club at the age of 17, and he has since established himself as one of the best soccer players of all time.
Since his debut, Messi has won the World Player of the Year award a record four times. The Argentina captain has scored 361 goals since he played his first Barcelona match exactly 10 years ago. He has helped the Catalan club win 21 trophies during the past decade, including three Champions League trophies and six La Liga titles.
Messi came on as a substitute 10 years ago for his debut at Barcelona. Within three years, he had become a crucial player for the club, and he won his first World Player of the Year award in 2009. The Argentine forward reached his peak in the 2012/13 season, and he broke Gerd Muller's record of scoring the most goals in a calendar year with 91 goals.
In Barca’s match against Eibar on Saturday, Messi will have another chance to surpass Telmo Zarra's six-decade-old La Liga scoring record of 251 goals. Messi has scored 249 times in the Spanish top division.
===================================================================== Kenya's Kirui, Chenet Ready To Battle For Amsterdam Marathon Honors
Olympic marathon silver medallist Abel Kirui of Kenya is happy to have put behind his injury worries as he prepares to compete at Sunday's Amsterdam Marathon.
Kirui, who failed to defend his World Marathon title in Moscow last year because of the injury, has not competed for almost two years and Amsterdam performance will be a major test of his ability to continue running.
"I got this tendon injury that spoilt the whole of last year. It was a very big disappointment especially for my fans. Losing the World Championships in Moscow and not running at the London city marathon where I was at the peak of my shape hurt in 2013 was a great loss," Kirui said in Nairobi late on Wednesday.
"But that is over. I am now ready to prove that I have not spent all my energies and can still compete at the global level," he added.
Kirui, who departed for the Dutch capital, however, will have to contend with compatriot Wilson Chebet for the honors. Chebet is returning to Amsterdam with big ambitions.
"I have set myself a goal. During my fifth race in Amsterdam I want to show that this is a 2:04 marathon course. I have taken small risks in my training to achieve this, and I want the wonderful audience and outstanding organisers to see it," he said.
"I have prepared well. It will be no easy race, because as you can see, we have here my friend Kirui, who has said he is keen to run faster on the course and lower its mark. I will be there to keep him in check. I will give my best shot," said Chebet, who also jetted out for Amsterdam.
The duo will also face off with former World cross-country bronze medallist Lucas Rotich, former Tokyo Marathon winner Bernard Kipyego, Philemon Rono, John Mwangangi and Gideon Kipketer.
Chebet, 29, holds the course record. "I feel at home and at ease in Amsterdam," he said.

On 17th November 2005, Ronaldinho left the Bernabéu to a standing ovation after scoring a brace against Real Madrid.
That is possibly one of the few things left for Messi to accomplish. He set up Eto'o for his goal in that game. That day saw both the master and the student out on the pitch, and nobody could have imagined that the Argentine would take over from the Brazilian barely three years later.
Ronaldinho 'adopted' Messi when the Argentine managed to beat him at futnet, a game that requires heaps of skill, technique and precision. The duo were joined by Deco and Motta, who even used to pick him up in their car and take him home when Leo did not yet have a driving licence.
He was the only player allowed to sit at the Brazilians' table and used to spend hours sharing stories with Sylvinho, who also helped him when he came up from Barça B.
Ronaldinho was his big brother until Guardiola arrived and decided to rebuild the team around Messi. Until then he had lived in the Brazilians' shadow but had already showed much of his future potential.
Ronaldinho's time at Barcelona was exciting and productive, but short-lived. Messi challenges himself every season. He just keeps getting better and looks set to enjoy many more years at the club. His feet are firmly on the ground.
