Germany won the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup for a record-equalling third time after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nigeria at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium. The Germans endured courtesy of a Lena Petermann goal scored eight minutes into extra time after both sides made goalless after 90 minutes. Though they lost, the Nigerian girls proved their mettle having given no room for the more experienced Germans to operate. Meanwhile, Nigerians have lauded the team in defeat.
